Grenadiers Roll Past Ohio Christian 20-2 and 9-1 Friday

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team dominated a doubleheader with KIAC foe Ohio Christian Friday, defeating the Trailblazers 20-2 and 9-1.

IU Southeast (21-11, 13-1 KIAC) opened the day with a seven-run first inning. They sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning. The big hit came from Zach Reboulet who had an two-run single. The Grenadiers had three hits in the inning, all singles, but capitalized on three walks, two hit batters and two wild pitchers. Kyle Asher and Trent Simpson each hit sacrifice flies to bring in runs.

IU Southeast scored a run in every inning of game one. The highlight came in the sixth when Wesley Walker hit a grand slam for his first collegiate home run.

Logan Coughlin went 5-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. Logan Barnes was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Greg Laughlin got the win. He gave up six hits and a run and struck out four in four innings of work.

In game two, the Grenadiers scored the first six runs of the game.

In the second inning, a Reboulet was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run and an RBI groundout by Trent Simpson made it 2-0.

IU Southeast would add four more in the third. Kyle Asher led off with a single and scored on a triple by Coughlin. Clay Benefield followed with a single. Benefield would later score on a groundout by Reboulet and Cody Maloon scored on an error by the third baseman Jordan Dicks.

Logan Couglin hit his third home run of the year in the fourth, a two-run shot to left.

Kyle Asher was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Coughlin and Benefield each had two hits.

Brad Ferriell got the win. He worked four innings and gave up four hits and a run while striking out three.

The four-game series concludes tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at noon.
