Grenadiers Complete Sweep of Brescia Sunday

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team rallied for a win and then got a dominant pitching performance from Chase Vanek to complete a four-game sweep of Brescia on Sunday.

In game one, the Grenadiers trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning and rallied for four runs to put the game out of reach.

Zach Reboulet led off with a single and advanced to second on Julian Flanary's sacrifice bunt. Richard Rodriguez and Hector Marmol each had with an RBI singles. Then Cody Maloon and Nicholas Lugo had back-to-back RBI doubles.

Nicholas Lugo went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Hector Marmol, Cody Maloon and Clay Benefield each had two hits.

Gage Rogers got the win. He worked the final two innings and did not allow a run. He gave up two hits, walked one and struck out three.

In game two, Clay Benefield and Nicholas Lugo each hit two-run home runs and that was more than enough for Chase Vanek who got the complete-game shutout

He allowed four hits, struck out two and walked a batter for his fourth win of the year.

Tanner Leenknecht, Rodriguez and Lugo each had two hits.

IU Southeast is now 23-7 and 13-3 in the River States Conference.
