WILMORE, Ky. - The women's tennis team dropped their first conference match of the season with a 6-3 setback at Asbury on Friday afternoon.
Asbury took control after winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions while the Grenadiers tandem of Alexis Applegate and Anne Mattox won 8-3 at the No. 3 position. Trailing 2-1 heading into singles play Asbury got out to a strong start winning the top three singles first sets in convincing fashion before the Grenadiers made a push in the second sets. Dana Frank was able to push her match to three sets against last year's Player of the Year Caitlin Conyers before falling 10-6 in a third set super-tiebreaker.
The Eagles took control of the match with straight-set wins at 2-4 singles. IU Southeast continued to compete hard coming up with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles where Camille Greenwell and Jeannie Soto won in straight sets.
The Grenadiers take on Brescia indoors at the Southern Indiana Tennis Center today at 3 p.m.
