Grenadiers Get Past Lindsey Wilson 5-4

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team extended its winning streak to six games in a row with a 5-4 win over Lindsey Wilson on Wednesday.

The Grenadiers (32-8) trailed in the top of the first when Ben Heideman doubled and scored on a RBI single from Oliver Baez.

IU Southeast responded with a pair of runs in the second inning. Tanner Leenknecht hit a RBI double just inside the left-field line to score Korbin Williams and, later in the inning, a RBI groundout from Nolan Rogers gave the Grenadiers the lead.

Lindsey Wilson (21-21) took the lead right back in the top of the third when Alec Salcedo hit a two-run home run to right, his first of the year.

A two-run single by Nicholas Lugo gave the Grenadiers the lead for good in the bottom of the inning.

IU Southeast added one more run in the sixth when Jordan Branz singled to left to score Cody Maloon who had reached on a walk.

The game was delayed for about an hour due to rain but the Grenadier pitching staff did not falter after the break.

Chase Vanek (2-1) earned the win and Andrew Yates recorded his sixth save of the season.

IU Southeast hosts Point Park for a three-game series that could determine the River States Conference Championship this weekend beginning on Friday at 1 p.m. Senior Day will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. prior to the noon first pitch of the series finale.
