NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast men's tennis team defeated Oakland City 8-1 on Thursday.
The No. 1 doubles team of Garrett Fensler and Brock Winchell won 8-3 while Bradley Cross and Dane Baldwin won 8-1 at No. 2. Oakland City only had five players on the day so had to forfeit #3 doubles which gave the Grenadiers a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Zach Kelly, Bradley Cross, Daulton Fensler, and Sam Venter all won in convincing fashion with straight set victories, Bradley Cross did not drop a single game in his match. At the No. 1 singles position Garrett Fensler played a very tough opponent and competed hard. After dropping the opening set 6-4, Fensler came back to take the second 6-3 and after jumping out to an early lead in the third he was unable to finish off his opponent from Oakland City falling 7-5 in the third set.
Up next for the Grenadiers is the last conference regular season match at IU East on Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by the final home match of the season against Marian on Sunday at 12 p.m.
