NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team was shut out by No. 15 Point Park 6-0 on Saturday.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings before Point Park scored three runs in the fourth with the bases loaded. Erik Montero led off with a double and Edberg Dominguez and Reynaldo Adames each drew walks. Ben Herstine followed with a bases-clearing double to make it 3-0.
Point Park (33-7, 20-4 RSC) scored runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to put the game out of reach.
Andres Herrera led off the eighth inning with a home run to left for his first home run of the season.
The Grenadiers (34-9, 21-3 RSC) could not solve Point Park starter Cole Horew, who earned complete-game shutout. IU Southeast only had runners in scoring position in the first and fifth innings of the contest.
Brandon Nylin (6-2) took the loss. He gave up five runs, four earned, on nine hits in six and two-thirds innings of work. He walked three and struck out six. Cole Horew scattered six hits while striking out five and walking one.
Cody Maloon had two hits in the loss.
IU Southeast can clinch the River States Conference regular season title with a series win over Midway University next weekend.
Prior to the game, the Grenadiers honored 16 seniors who were playing their penultimate game at IU Southeast. The Grenadiers host No. 21 Campbellsville Monday at 6 p.m.
