MASON, Ohio – The No. 2-seeded IU Southeast women's tennis team defeated No. 3 IU East 5-1 to advance to the championship match of the River States Conference Women's Tennis Tournament.
The Grenadiers (11-8) took a commanding 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles play. The No. 1 doubles pair of Tamerra Horton and Dana Frank defeated Morgan Jackson and Kaylin Venezia 8-1. Alexis Applegate and Camille Greenwell defeated Brooklyn Hubbard and Shelby Good 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and Lauren Winchell and Jeannie Soto defeated Bri Ayres and Krystal Schmidt 8-3.
In singles action, Alexis Applegate rolled past Bri Ayres 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. At No. 2 singles, Dana Frank won her first set 6-0 and led 4-0 in the second set before Kaylin Venezia came back to force a tiebreaker. Frank was able to win that 7-4 to clinch the match.
IU Southeast will face No. 1 seed Asbury at 9 a.m. Saturday for the River States Conference Championship.
