MASON, Ohio – The IU Southeast women's tennis team fell in heartbreaking fashion 5-4 to Asbury University in the RSC Championship match on Saturday.
The Grenadiers (11-9) led 2-1 after doubles as the No. 2 and doubles teams of Camille Greenwell/Alexis Applegate and Jeannie Soto/Lauren Winchell both picked up 8-3 victories.
In singles play, the Grenadiers saw their lead disappear as Asbury won at No. 3 and and No. 4 singles, but Greenwell and Soto got the lead back with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Camille Greenwell won 6-4, 6-1 over Emily Ross and Jeannie Soto also won 6-4, 6-1 over Kendal Leander.
After Tamerra Horton fell at No. 1 singles to tie the match at 4 apiece, Dana Frank won her first set 6-1, before losing the second set 6-4. In the third set she led 4-1 before Ale Diaz roared back to win six of next seven games to win the match for the Eagles.
Asbury University advances to the NAIA Tournament with the victory.
