CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The IU Southeast offense carried the Grenadiers past No. 14 Campbellsville 17-9 on Tuesday.
The Grenadiers (3-3) had 18 hits in the contest and put two five-run innings on the board in the contest.
IU Southeast opened the scoring in the top of the first with a three-run inning and tacked on another run in the second. Derek Wagner and Cody Maloon each had RBI singles in the first and Ben Berenda grounded into a double play to bring in the third run.
Campbellsville (4-4) responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame and scored eight unanswered runs until IU Southeast put five runs on the board in the sixth. The Grenadiers added three runs in the seventh and another five runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
IU Southeast took the lead for good in the top of seventh when Clay Woeste scored on a wild pitch. Cody Maloon hit a home run to center to make it a 12-9 game later in the inning.
Derek Wagner went 4-for-6 in the contest and drove in four. Cody Maloon went 3-for-6 and also drove in four. Clay Woeste, Daniel Brescia, Daunte Decello and Brody Tanksley each had two hits in the win.
IU Southeast takes on Huntington University on Friday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
