NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team swept Indiana Wesleyan taking a doubleheader 5-4 and 12-1 on Wednesday.
In game one, IU Southeast opened the scoring with a three-run first inning. Derek Wagner singled to left to bring in Clay Woeste and Daunte Decello hit a two-run single to left to make it 3-0.
In the second inning, Brody Tanksley hit a two-run single to left to bring in Woeste and Cody Maloon.
Indiana Wesleyan (5-9) cut the lead to one but Kyle Hawkins worked a perfect seventh inning to record his third save of the season.
In game two, the Grenadiers scored once again in the first inning. Back-to-back RBI singles from Tanksley and Dalton Mitchell made it 2-0.
The Grenadiers (9-5) scored one run in the third and two in the fourth before a five-run fifth inning put the game away. IU Southeast scored all five runs on four singles and a sacrifice fly.
Dalton Mitchell had two hits and drove in three in the win. Chas Adams recorded his first colliegiate win with six shutoutinnings of work. He gave up five hits and struck out seven.
IU Southeast hosts Rio Grande to open conference play on Friday and Saturday.
