IU Southeast Rolls Past Point Park 11-0 Saturday

PITTSBURGH – The IU Southeast baseball team opened the series vs Point Park in dominant fashion, defeating the Pioneers 11-0 in seven innings.

IU Southeast (18-9, 7-3 RSC) got on the board in the first inning when Daniel Brescia doubled and Cody Maloon drove him in with a RBI single.

The Grenadiers added pairs of runs in the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead. In the fourth, Brody Tanksley tripled and Jordan Branz drove in the run on a squeeze play that resulted in a base hit. Branz would advance to third on a throwing error and Dalton Mitchell hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Branz.

In the fifth, a dropped popup that would have ended the inning plated Brescia, who had singled and Derek Wagner who had doubled.

IU Southeast closed the game with a five-run seventh inning. Brody Tanksley hit a RBI single and Dalton Mitchell and Santrel Farmer each had a two-run doubles to blow the game open.

Chas Adams (4-1) recorded a complete game, five-hit shutout while striking out seven and he did not walk a batter. The Pioneers (11-10, 6-4 RSC) threatened with runners in scoring position in the first two innings but Adams was able to work his way out of jams and cruised through the middle innings.

The series concludes Sunday at noon with a doubleheader.
