Grenadiers Fall To No. 21 Georgetown 5-1

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The IU Southeast baseball team dropped a 5-1 decision to No. 21 Georgetown on Wednesday.

Georgetown (31-10) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Chris Gilbody singled and advanced to third on a double by Ryan Gaynor. An RBI groundout by Val Stammler made it 1-0.

A RBI single by Ryan Gaynor made it 2-0 in the bottom of third.

IU Southeast (26-12) cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth. Dalton Mitchell hit a sacrifice fly to score Derek Wagner who had reached on an error.

But the Tigers got the run back in the bottom of the 5th when Chris Gilbody tripled and then a RBI single by Ryan Gaynor made it 3-1.

A pair of runs secured the game for the Tigers in the seventh. Ryan Gaynor hit a RBI single to center to bring in Eric Thrower. Then Gaynor advanced to third on a throwing error by reliever Jacob Morley. He would score on a passed ball by Brody Tanksley.

The Grenadiers had a chance to put together a two-out rally in the 5th after a single by Clay Woesete and a double by Danny Brescia. Then Wagner was hit by a pitch to load the bases but Cody Maloon flied out to end the threat.

In the ninth, the Grenadiers had runners on second and third with two out but Brescia grounded out to end the game.

Clay Woeste went 4-for-5 and Cody Maloon had three hits in the loss.

IU Southeast hosts Asbury University for a weekend series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
