NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast baseball team fell 4-2 to No. 21 Georgetown on Monday.
Georgetown (35-10) opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning. After a single, walk and passed ball a two-run single by Eric Thrower gave Georgetown the lead.
IU Southeast (27-15) did not get back into the game until the fifth when Dalton Mitchell doubled to left. Tyler Mills followed with a two-run home run to left for his second home run of the season to tie the game.
In the seventh, Jordan Branz led off with a double. Then Dalton Mitchell drew a walk and Daunte Decello was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two out, but Clay Woeste struck out swinging to end the threat.
Georgetown took the lead for good in the eighth and the Tigers were aided by IU Southeast miscues. Ryan Garner was hit and then Chris Gilbody bunted and reached base on a error by third baseman Decello. Reliever Brenden Bube threw a pickoff attempt into center so both runners advanced to second and third. Later in the inning, Brody Tanksley's errant pickoff attempt allowed Gabriel Figuroa to score from third.
Eric Thrower led off the ninth with a solo home run to left to double the Tiger lead which was enough to secure the win.
Keon Taylor earned the win and Brenden Bube took the loss in relief.
IU Southeast travels to Lindenwood-Beleville Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET.
