CINCINNATI, Ohio - The IU Southeast women's tennis team fell 5-4 to IU East in the semifinals of the River States Conference Tennis Championships on Friday.
The Grenadiers (10-11) took a 2-1 lead after doubles play as they were able to pick up wins at No. 2 and doubles in tight matches. At No. 2 doubles Camille Greenwell and Jeannie Soto defeated Morgan Jackson and Bri Ayres 9-8 (4) and Hallee Miller and Anne-Marie Mattox earned a 9-8 (7) decision over Ashlyn Hubbard and Krystal Schmidt.
The No. 1 doubles spot was close as well as Lauren Winchell and Alexis Applegate fell 8-6.
The Grenadiers picked up singles wins at No. 2 and three singles to take a 4-1 lead. Alexis Applegate defeated Morgan Jackson 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Camille Greenwell won at No. 3 singles 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
But the Red Wolves roared back to take the four remaining singles points and earn a 5-4 win, with three out of the four in straight sets.
