CLARKSVILLE, Ind. - The IU Southeast men's tennis team took down #16 Campbellsville on Saturday night at the Southern Indiana Tennis Center 4-3.
After dropping the doubles point with the lone win coming from Brock Winchell and Bradley Cross at the No. 3 position, the Grenadiers had an uphill battle heading into singles play. T
The Grenadiers evened the match score 1-1 after Cameron Mount won in straight sets at No. 2 singles. Campbellsville quickly took back the lead with a win at No. 3 singles. Brock Winchell took the No. 4 singles spot in straight sets to even things up at 2-2.
In the No. 1 singles position Garrett Fensler was able to fight back from a set down to win the second set and force a pivotal deciding third set that went the distance. Fensler was down a break at 4-5 and 5-6 in the third set but was able to force a tiebreaker and come away with the 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory. With the Grenadiers leading the match 3-2 and Bradley Cross in a third set at No. 5 singles sophomore Jerid Inman took care of business with a routine 6-0, 6-2 win to clinch the match for the Grenadiers.
"This was a great win over a nationally ranked team for us early in the spring," head coach Joe Epkey said. "We look to continue improving and adding more quality wins throughout the semester. I am proud of the way our team stuck together and competed."
Next up the men head to Ball State for a doubleheader on March 1.
