COLUMBIA, Ky. – The IU Southeast offense continued its torrid pace on Wednesday, as the Grenadiers defeated Lindsey Wilson 11-7 and recorded 15 hits in the process.
IU Southeast (18-1) fell behind 3-1 in the second inning before tying the contest in the third on a Derek Wagner two-run home run to center for his first home run of the year.
The Grenadiers took the lead in the fourth when Clay Woeste singled to second to score Santrel Farmer.
After the Blue Raiders (10-12) answered with the tying run in the bottom of the inning, the Grenadiers pulled away with a five-run fifth inning.
Tyler Mills started the scoring with a RBI single that brought in Jake Scott, who had reached on a double. Woeste came through again, this time with a two-run double that scored Wagner and Tyler Mills. Marco Romero followed with a two-run double that scored Daunte Decello and Woeste.
Lindsey Wilson cut the lead to 9-7 with three runs in the eighth, but once again the Grenadiers had a response. In the ninth, Alec Saulman singeld and Decello was hit by a pitch to put two runners on with two out. Brandon Hubbard singled to center to bring them in and restore the breathing room.
Brenden Bube retired the first two batters in the bottom of the frame before walking Jed Areno and allowing a single to Fernando Rosales. Vincent Boils lined out to second to end the game and secure the first save of the season for Bube.
Conner Burnett worked three innings for his second win. He allowed one run on two hits and walked a batter.
Clay Woeste led the Grenadiers at the plate again, finishing 3-for-6 with a run scored and three RBI. Derek Wagner was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
IU Southeast will host RSC rival Point Park this weekend, dates and times will be announced in the coming days after monitoring the upcoming weather forecasts.
