NEW ALBANY, Ind. – No. 11 IU Southeast dropped a 3-2 decision to Huntington University in game one of a doubleheader before the second game was suspended in the fourth inning due to rain and field conditions.
In game one, the Grenadiers got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Matt Monahan and Brody Tanksley had back-to-back singles and then Marco Romero singled to bring in Monahan. Ben Berenda added a RBI single later in the inning to make it 2-0.
The Foresters (4-0) cut the lead in half in the top of the third when Langston Ginder hit a sacrifice fly.
The Grenadiers had runners in scoring position in the third, sixth and seventh innings but were unable to score.
Huntington took the lead for good in the sixth when Daniel Lichty doubled to left to score Ian McCutcheon who had reached on a single. An RBI single by Jarret Gray was the go-ahead run for the Foresters.
The Grenadiers had runners on second and third with two out after a single by Monahan and double by Marco Romero but Daunte DeCello ground out to short to end the game.
Game two was suspended in the top of the fourth inning due to rain with Huntington leading 4-1.
Matt Monahan went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a walk in game one, Marco Romero and Ben Berenda each had two hits.
