Tanksley's Walkoff Single Sends IU Southeast Past Asbury

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Brody Tanksley delivered a walkoff single to right to score Clay Woeste and defeat the Asbury Eagles 7-6 in 11 innings on Friday.

The Grenadiers (18-11, 10-0 RSC) trailed 3-0 after an inning of play when the Eagles capitalized on a couple of errors and a single to scratch across three runs.

IU Southeast answered with a four-run bottom of the third. Ethan Shafer doubled to canter and scored on a RBI single by Clay Woeste. Matt Monahan drove in Woeste with a single and an error brought in Monahan and Andronico Recasas.

IU Southeast took a 5-3 lead in the fourth when John Ullom doubled and scored on another Woeste RBI single.

But the Eagles chipped away with a run in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Paul Haupt doubled and score don a single by Colton Back. In the sixth, Trevor Campbell tied the game with a solo home run to left-center for his first home run of the season.

The Grenadiers had the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth when Brody Tanksley lined out sharply to third and Ullom was tagged out as he tried to get back to third base which ended the inning.

Asbury (20-5, 8-2 RSC) took the lead in the 10th when Kaiden Zacharias reached on a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. He later scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Haupt when Trevor Campbel broke up the double play attempt.

But the Grenadiers would not go away and tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Marco Romero led off with a walk, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on a throwing error by second baseman Austin Dick which placed runners at first and second with one out.

Ben Berenda and Austin Wise each struck out swinging to end the inning.

In the 11th, Brenden Bube sent the Eagles down in order and set the stage for Tanksley's heroics.

Clay Woeste led off with a single and advanced to second when Monahan was hit by a pitch and Tanksley laced a single to right to bring in Woeste and win the game.

Brenden Bube (2-2) worked three solid innings of relief to earn the win. He allowed one run on two hits, walked two and struck out two.

Clay Woeste was 4-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI, Tanksley was 3-for-6 with a RBI and Jake Scott and Ethan Shafer each had two hits.

IU Southeast concludes the series with Asbury with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
