GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The IU Southeast baseball team fell 7-6 to Georgetown College on Tuesday as the Grenadiers mounted multiple comebacks to tie or take the lead but could not hang on for the win.
The Tigers (24-14) struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the first before the Grenadiers tied it in the top of the third. Daunte DeCello and Clay Woeste had back-to-back singles and Matt Monahan followed with a double to drive in DeCello. Brody Tanksley followed with a sacrifice fly.
Derek Wagner gave the Grenadiers a short-lived lead when he walked and eventually scored on wild pitch.
After Georgetown tied the game in the fourth IU Southeast took the lead back in the fifth. Clay Woeste singled and later scored on a RBI single by Wagner.
The Tigers scored twice in fifth and once in the eighth to take a 6-4 lead. IU Southeast rallied once again in the ninth to tie the game. Clay Woeste singled and advanced to third on a double by Monahan. Brody Tanksley drove in Woeste with a RBI groundout and Marco Romero hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Monahan.
Chris O'Neal singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. He moved to third on a wild throw by Woeste. A single to center by Justin Brodt scored Dezarn to win it for Georgetown.
Clay Woeste and Matt Monahan each had three hits and Ben Berenda had two while Tanksley drove in two in the loss.
IU Southeast (28-13) hosts Lindsey Wilson Wednesday at 5 p.m.
