No. 20 Grenadiers Complete Sweep of WVU Tech

PRINCETON, WV – After a convincing 23-5 win on Saturday, the No. 20-ranked IU Southeast baseball team completed the three-game sweep of West Virginia Tech 13-2 and 15-5 on Sunday.

In Friday's action, Clay Woeste and Ben Berenda each had four hits and John Ullom and Marco Romero each added three. Ben Berenda drove in four runs while Woeste and Romero each knocked in three apiece as the Grenadiers recorded 21 hits.

IU Southeast (32-13, 20-1 RSC) scored a pair of runs in the first inning, four in the fouth, five in the fith and one in the sixth before an 11-run outburst in the top of the 7th inning.

The Grenadiers recorded three hits in the inning and which drove in four of the 11 runs. The rest of the runs were scored off of nine walks, a hit by pitch and wild pitch.

Cade Reynolds worked five innings for his fourth win of the year.

In Saturday's action, the Grenadiers hit three home runs in game one. Derek Wagner hit a two-run home run to left for his second home run of the year to cap off a three-run first inning.

In the second inning, John Ullom led off with an inside-the-park home run to center to start a six-run rally. Brody Tanksley hit his 14th home run of the year, a two-run home run and Marco Romero followed with a his fourth home run.

Clay Woeste was 4-for-4 with three RBI, and Tanksley and Romero each had threer hits and drove in three.

In the nightcap, IU Southeast trailed 3-0 before striking four four runs in the third inning. Marco Romero had a RBI single and Derek Wagner hit a three-run home run.

After the Golden Bears tied the game in the bottom of the inning, the Grenadiers took the lead when Matt Monahan doubled with the bases loaded.

IU Southeast put the game away with a five-run sixth inning. Clay Woeste led off with a home run, his fifth of the year. John Ullom capped off the inning with a RBI single to score Wagner.

Marco Romero had another RBI single in the seventh and Ethan Shafer drove in two with a single.

Brenden Bube worked three innings of relief for his fourth win. He allowed two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out two.

Matt Monahan was 4-for-5 with two runsscored and three RBI and Wagner had two hits and drove in three. Marco Romero and Daunte DeCello each had two-hit games.

IU Southeast hosts Thomas More Tuesday at 6 p.m.
