OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – Brody Tanksley hit two mammoth home runs, Clay Woeste had six hits in two games and Drew Hensley worked five shutout innings as IU Southeast completed the sweep of Oakland City with 11-6 and 5-2 wins on Saturday
In game one, the Grenadiers took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. Clay Woeste led off with a double and scored on a RBI single by Matt Monahan. He later scored on an error.
Oakland City (13-17, 6-9 RSC) tied the game in the second when Chandler Dunn homered to left but the lead was short-lived as the Grenadiers took the lead on a sacrifice fly from Brandon Boxer, who drove in John Ullom.
IU Southeast (24-11, 15-0 RSC) tacked on a run in the fourth but the Mighty Oaks tied the game in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs. A walk and back-to-back doubles by Victor Alvarez and Jenrick Rivers tied the game.
The Grenadiers took the lead for good with four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.
In the sixth, Ben Berenda walked and later scored on a wild pickoff throw to first base. Marco Romero drove in Woeste and Andronico Recasas with a single. A single by Jake Scott drove in Romero.
In the seventh, Berenda led off with a double and scored on a double by Woeste. Brody Tanksley hit a two-out, two-run home run to left-center for his eighth home run of the year.
Trevor Reynolds worked three and two-thirds perfect innings of relief for his fifth win. He struck out two.
Clay Woeste was 4-for-5 with four runs scored and an RBI. Matt Monahan was 2-for-5 with a run scored and two knocked in. Marco Romero was 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI, Drew Hensley was 3-for-4 and two RBI and Tanksley was 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
In game two, the Grenadiers struck first when Woeste and Monahan recorded consecutive singles in the bottom of the first. Marco Romero followed with a RBI double to bring in Woeste but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.
That was enough run support for starter Drew Hensley who did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. He worked five innings and allowed one hit and walked two while striking out seven for his fifth win.
IU Southeast got some insurance runs in the fifth inning when Tanksley hit a three-run home run followed by a solo shot by Romero, his third home run of the year.
Marco Romero was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Clay Woeste and Matt Monahan each had two hits.
IU Southeast travels to Campbellsville Monday at 6 p.m.
