Grenadiers Defeat Campbellsville 5-3 For 16th Consecutive Win

Campbellsville, Ky. – Matt Monahan and Brody Tanksley hit back-to-back home runs and Lane Oesterling worked five shutout innings to lead IU Southeast past Campbellsville 5-3 on Monday.

The Grenadiers (25-11) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Marco Romero was hit by a pitch and later scored on a RBI single by John Ullom. Derek Wagner drew a walk and eventually scored on a passed ball.

That was enough run support for Lane Oesterling, who worked five shutout innings to move to 2-1 on the year. He allowed two hits and a walk while striking out one.

The Grenadier defense was also solid behind him as Clay Woeste and Monahan made diving stops to take away hits early in the ballgame.

IU Southeast tacked on three runs in the sixth inning. Matt Monahan and Brody Tanksley led off with back-to-back home runs, their 11th and 10th of the season, respectively. Marco Romero walked and scored when Ben Berenda grounded into a double play.

Campbellsville (10-12) got on the board with a run in the seventh and a pair in the eighth. In the seventh, Jaylin Turner reached on an error and scored on a RBI single by Dutton Elske.

In the eighth, Colton Titus scored on a fielder's choice and Grant McQueary scored on a RBI single by Tommy Sepulveda.

Payton Bledsoe was able to limit the damage and then worked a perfect ninth inning to end the game.

Matt Monahan was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI.

IU Southeast hosts Georgetown College Tuesday at 5 p.m.
