No. 18 Grenadiers Conclude Regular Season With Sweep of Brescia

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The No.18-ranked IU Southeast baseball team concluded regular season play with a 12-7 win over Brescia University to complete a three-game sweep on Sunday.

IU Southeast (40-13, 26-1 RSC) scored once in the first inning and broke the game open with a five-run second inning.

Brandon Boxer grounded out to second to bring in Brody Tanksley in the first inning to open the scoring.

In the second, John Ullom singled and scored on a RBI double by Daunte DeCello. After Clay Woeste was hit by a pitch, back-to-back RBI singles by Tanksley and Marco Romero added to the lead. Jake Scott closed the scoring in the inning with a two-run single.

The Bearcats cut the lead in half with a pair of runs in the second and one in the third, but iU Southeast scored once in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to keep the lead out of reach.

The Grenadiers added three more runs in the eighth inning. Brayden Hazelwood stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a throwing error by pitcher Manning Webb. John Ullom doubled to left to score Scott who reached on a walk and Ullom later scored on a balk.

Derek Wagner, Drew Hensley, John Ullom and Drew Hensley each went 2-for-6 and Jake Scott was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Tyler Mills was 2-for-3 off the bench for the Grenadiers.

River States Conference regular season champion and No. 1 seed IU Southeast begins play in the 2021 River States Conference Baseball Championship on Thursday at the VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.
