NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The women's tennis team opened its fall season with a dominant 7-0 victory over Hanover on Sunday afternoon.
Audrey and Adalyn De Witt opened the scoring, winning 6-0 at No. 1 doubles and winning the top two singles positions by scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2. Anna Littlefield and Katie Weimer were able to shake off a slow start trailing 0-3 before rebounding with six-straight games to win 6-3 and clinch the doubles point for the Grenadiers. Weimer and Littlefield also took care of their singles opponents in straight sets.
The closest matches of the day took place at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Kate Heuchan dropped her first set 6-2 and trailed 3-0 before rattling off six-straight games to force a deciding third set which she won 6-3 to earn the victory. Emma Ellis was the last match on court but took care of her opponent in straight sets 7-6(5), 7-5.
The Grenadiers will travel to Campbellsville for an all day tournament this Saturday.
