OWENSBORO, Ky. – The IU Southeast men's tennis team opened conference play with a 4-3 defeat to Brescia on Saturday.
The Grenadiers earned the doubles point with a sweep of play as they battled to win close matches.
Noah Neuhauser and Eli Franks and Caleb Harris and Brent Reynolds each won 7-5 in the top two doubles pairings. Connor Mason and Cade Burman picked up a 6-4 win at the No.3 doubles position.
In singles play, IU Southeast won at No. 2 and No.3 singles to take a 3-1 lead. Eli Franks cruised 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Brent Reynolds won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.
But the Bearcats won at No.1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to get back in the match. Cade Burman won his opening set 7-5 at No. 4 singles, but dropped the next two sets 6-3, 6-2.
The Grenadiers host Huntington on Saturday.
