No. 18 Grenadiers Advance To RSC Championship Game With Comeback Win

CHILLICOTHE, OHIO – The No. 18-ranked IU Southeast baseball team fell behind 4-0 and 6-2 but rallied to defeat Point Park and advance to the River States Conference Championship game on Monday.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when two walks and an error loaded the bases with one out for Point Park.

Gianmarco Marcelletti hit a grand slam to center to put the Pioneers on the board 4-0.

IU Southeast (38-13) cut the lead in half with two runs in the fourth. Brody Tanksley led off with a home run to center and Derek Wagner doubled.

After Brandon Boxer drew a walk, Trevor MacDonald singled to put runners at second and third and John Ullom hit a sacrifice fly to left to drive in Wagner.

But the Pioneers recaptured the four-run lead in the fifth inning with a pair of runs. After a pair of walks and a hit batter loaded the bases, Ed Pfluger hit a ground-rule double down the left-field line.

Cade Reynolds was able to retire the next two batters with a strikeout and groundout to limit the damage.

The Grenadiers cut the lead to 6-4 in the bottom of the inning when Boxer doubled to left-center, driving in Wagner and Trevor Campbell.

IU Southeast took its first lead of the day in the bottom of the sixth inning. Trevor Campbell tied the game with a two-run home run to right. After Brody Tanksley singled, Marco Romero doubled to left-center to drive in courtesy runner Tyler Mills.

The lead was short-lived as Point Park tied the game with a two-out rally in the seventh. Three-straight singles scored Marcelletti to tie the game as Jordan Campbell knocked in the tying run.

In the bottom of the inning, MacDonald singled, Ullom walked and DeCello was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out.

Trevor Campbell delivered again with a two-run single, scoring Ullom and MacDonald.

Garrett Hill worked the final two innings to record his first save. He allowed a hit and a walk and struck out five.

Trevor Campbell went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI in the win. Brandon Boxer drove in two and Tanksley, Wagner and MacDonald each had two hits.
