NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast baseball team split a doubleheader with IU Kokomo on Saturday, clinching a series win against the Cougars. The Grenadiers won game one of the series on Friday.

IU Kokomo took an early lead in the first game of the doubleheader. A run scored in the top of the first after a potential double play ball went under the glove of a Grenadier infielder. IU Kokomo took a 2-0 lead on an RBI groundout.

Neither team scored until the fifth inning. IU Kokomo extended their lead to 3-0 on an RBI single to left field. IU Kokomo took a 4-0 lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI single up the middle. The lead grew to 6-0 in the eighth on an RBI double.

IU Southeast scored their first run of the game on a Trevor Goodwin single in the bottom of the eighth, but IU Kokomo scored four in the top of the ninth to extend their lead to 10-1. The Cougars would go on to win by that same score.  

IU Kokomo took a 1-0 lead in the second game of the doubleheader on an RBI single in the top of the second. A Trevor Goodwin infield single in the bottom of the second allowed IU Southeast to tie the game 1-1.

The Grenadiers took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third on a Kody Putnam three-run home run to deep left field. Neither team scored again, as IU Southeast went on to win the game 4-1 and the series 2-1.

IU Southeast's pitching dominated game two. Tyler Yotkewich got the win for the Grenadiers, throwing four innings of four-hit, one-run ball. Garrett Hill followed with three innings of relief, picking up his first save of the year. Hill recorded five strikeouts and only allowed one hit in his three innings of work.

Kody Putnam had two of IU Southeast's six hits and drove in three of the team's four runs. Putnam now has two home runs and 10 RBIs this season. Trevor Goodwin recorded the other RBI for the Grenadiers, moving his season RBI total to 10.
