Box Score NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast baseball team defeated Georgetown 9-5 in a single game at home on Wednesday.
The Grenadiers jumped on the board first. Alex Yurt led off the bottom of the first with a single to center. Trevor Campbell followed with an RBI double down the left field line to give the Grenadiers a 1-0 lead. Mason White followed with a home run to left center to give IU Southeast a 3-0 lead three batters into the game.
Georgetown scored two runs on a bases loaded single in the top of the second to make it 3-2. The Tigers tied the game 3-3 with a solo home run in the top of the third.
Mason White led off the bottom of the third with a single and a stolen base. After advancing to third on a fly out, Mason White came around to score on an RBI double by Ben Berenda to give IU Southeast a 4-3 lead.
Georgetown responded with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4. In the bottom of the fifth, Ben Berenda launched a two-run home run to right field to put the Grenadiers back in front 6-4.
Georgetown hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to narrow the deficit to one run at 6-5, but IU Southeast used a Ryan Kassel RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to make it 7-5. Trevor Goodwin followed with an RBI double to center field to extend the Grenadier lead to 8-5.
Trevor Campbell stole third and came home on a throwing error in the bottom of the eighth to give IU Southeast a 9-5 lead. Garrett Hill came in and closed the game to secure a 9-5 victory for the Grenadiers.
Brendan Koester started the game for IU Southeast, throwing the first three innings. Cade Reynolds picked up the win, throwing two innings. Tyler Wilson, Chate Amick, Brock Hammond and Garrett Hill combined to throw the final three innings.
Trevor Campbell, Mason White, and Ben Berenda each had two hits and combined for five of the eight IU Southeast extra base hits in the contest. Trevor Campbell and Mason White each stole a base as well.
IU Southeast moved to 25-16 with the win on Wednesday. The Grenadiers return to action this weekend against Midway.
