IU Southeast Splits Doubleheader With Point Park

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The IU Southeast baseball team opened a key River States Conference series with Point Park by splitting a doubleheader with the Pioneers, falling 5-3 before winning 5-2.

In game one, Point Park jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, Three-straight walks loaded the bases and fielder's choice scratched across the game's first run.

Then Eddie Javier Jr. and Justin Oakley had back-to-back RBI singles to extend the lead to 3-0.

After the first inning when the Grenadiers put two runners on, IU Southeast did not have a baserunner until the fifth when Slater Schield drew a two-out walk.

IU Southeast got on the board in the sixth. Trevor Campbell walked and Mason White followed with a two-run home run to right, his sixth of the year. Kody Putnam followed with a triple and he scored off of a single by Ben Berenda to tie the game.

Point Park answered right back in the bottom of the inning. Justin Oakley led off with a double and, two batters later, Carlos Burroughs hit a two-run home run to right to give Point Park the lead.

Mason White drove in two in the loss.

In game two, the Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the second when Oakley homered to right.

Trevor Campbell cut the lead in half with a sacrifice fly in the third, scoring Schield.

IU Southeast took the lead for good in the fourth. Brayden Hazelwood led off with a double. Then Ryan Kassel was hit by a pitch and Alex Yurt walked to load the bases.

Trevor Campbell singled to left to score Hazelwood and Kassel and Yurt came around to score on an error.

Point Park threatened with the bases loaded in the sixth but reliever Garrett Hill worked out of the jam.

Two walks sandwiched around a flyout and then a single loaded the bases. But Hill struck out Oakley and then a fielder's choice to second ended the inning.

Mason White hit a one-out double to left-center in the seventh and he came around to socre on a single to center by Putnam.

Hill retired the side in order for his fourth save. Tyler Yotkewich had another solid outing, working five innings and allowing two runs on three hits. He walked two and struck out two.

Hill allowed one hit in two scoreless innings.

Mason White was 2-for-3 and Campbell drove in three in the win.

The series concludes Sunday at noon.
